| My first stands first in loyalty My second, it curves outwardly My third leads all in victory My fourth begins eternity What am I?
Three lives have I: Soft enough to sooth the skin Light enough to caress the sky Hard enough to crack a rock What am I?
What’s green, hangs on a wall, and whistles?
If you’ve got it, you want to share it, but if you share it,
you haven’t got it.
I don't really expect anyone other than Ellen to get the third one. And mom, if you can remember back to our old King's Quest games, the first two should be simple.
The End.
Or not.
I like old Xanga much better than the new "social networker friendly" Xanga. How can I get old Xanga back?

| I like animated Star Trek. It's fun.
I also like the fact that my daughter has reached a stage where she is so much more fun. Until about two weeks or so ago, I wasn't terribly sold on this whole "joy of fatherhood" thing. It seemed that my role as father was simply to stem the tide of crying whenever I had to (and this I didn't do very well). However, now that Melanie is reaching month three, she is becoming not only more responsive, but also more independent. She no longer has to be held every waking moment. This I like.
That's about all I've got to say.

By the by, I got this off IMAO and I thought I would share it with you for no good reason.
And just because it's fun: | | |
| Finals are over!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Can you tell I'm excited?
Also, I have added flashing text. I can even scroll and flash at the same time.
Who's impressed?
Anyway, I took three finals today and one yesterday. In the past four days, I have written somewhere between twenty-five and thirty pages, worked only about eleven hours, finished other random homework, helped Ellen with a baby (although she has done her absolute best at taking care of Melanie without me these past few days, for which I give her much credit and many kisses), watched my last three hours of lecture, taken four exams, and slept (although not as much or as well as I would have liked). This means that I have had little time to study. I was most worried about my History of Ancient Philosophy exam, since it is the only class I was taking that was for my major. It was an oral exam. Of eight possible questions, three are drawn at random. You have fifteen minutes to select two of the three and organize your thoughts. Then you have fifteen minutes to actually answer the two questions you chose. My two question were: 1.) Explain the concepts of being, soul, world, and intelligence as they relate to ancient philosophy; and 2.) What is Stoicism? What is Natural Law? How can Stoicism be considered to be the origin of human rights? What are the three disciplines of Epictetus?
I rocked it out of the park. My performance in class up to that point had been more than a little lack-luster. It has been a rather busy semester for me up to that point. A baby being born, a baby being loud during the night, losing a job, finding a job, having no money. It's been busy and stressful and I haven't been terribly diligent in my schoolwork. After the final was over, Dr. Moore said, "It's a good thing you do well on oral exams." The exam was worth half of my overall grade. I believe he was expecting me to get either a low B or a high C in the class. Today he said that the question is now whether it will be a low A or a high B. From my performance during the rest of the semester, I'm expecting the B but there's always hope. Anyway, it's great to have this load off of my shoulders and I should be sleeping much, much better tonight.
Huzzah!

| The final List of Seven: Names My Wife Rejected as Possible Baby Names
1. Agamemnon 2. Aloysius 3. Klaus 4. Ajax 5. Guinevere 6. Lumpkins 7. Hrothgar
As to why three of my favorite battles occurred in France, I should like to say that the French as such were only involved in one of them and lost rather horribly. Bastogne was fought between the U.S. 101st Airborne and the Nazi Germans and Tours was fought between the Franks (a Germanic people group that covered all of modern France and the eastern portion of modern Germany. The leader of the Frankish forces, Charles Martel, was the father of Charlemagne, who is considered to be an important figure in the development of both countries.) and Umayyad Muslims.
Now, as to all the rumors about the Spartans being true, I would have to agree with Joel. But they were never as bad as the Athenians.
